What it takes to be an MPP PART DEUX- THE INDIVIDUAL
To conclude what it takes to consider being an MPP candidate by itself and from the perspective of the Liberal nomination
Probably should be giving this post some more attention but I wanted to conclude it after a recent facebook conversation with Jody Percy and brief discussion with the Conservative Candidate Todd Branch which I will respectfully keep private.
Not a religious man but I counted my blessings which I consider some amazing friends who gave me some amazing feedback and advice. Just the few days period where I considered such a possibility was quite the growing experience.
First off, I have to confess my ego got the best of me early. This began as an exercise of “Can I win” and eventually turned into the proper question of “Do I want to win badly enough to make the sacrifices required of the campaign and more importantly the job?”. At this time the answer to the proper question was no.
First off a candidate faces 4 possibilities with a distinct liberal outcome
1. Party Wins - Candidate wins - Optimal (Very improbable in the liberal case)
2. Party Loses - Candidate wins - Still fun for me (more probable in liberal case for 2 reasons, NDP competition is weak, Conservatives rarely do well in Windsor and I cant think of a riding in ONtario that have benefited more from Liberal Largesse more than Windsor West)
3. Party Loses - Candidate loses - not very fun, a blow but you can always blame the leader, the party and blah blah blah blah.
4. Party Wins - Candidate loses. - Worst possible scenario ( as a Liberal -Forever be known as the candidate that lost Sandra Pupatello’s riding and eventually enter therapy sessions. Now this is probably the least likely scenario with the current status of the Liberal Party but it is a possible outcome).
But in the end:
- could I leave my 6 year old son and wife for Toronto 3 out of every 4 weeks? Never a possibility
- Would I change my lifestyle to that of a candidate that offends nobody? Maybe one day. but just for the year leading up to the election
- Would I be able to toe the Liberal Party line? My compulsion to say what I believe is insurmountable at time. but one day, maybe I’ll be more politically correct

BTW much of this post was copied from some comments by friends. I am not the author of much of it. Didn’t want to betray confidence by attributing the author
Meeting the other candidates they are making those sacrifices required to be a candidate. That means if your single, you stay single, if you smoke, stop, etc. etc….
It means not getting in internet debates with critics or putting yourself out there to be criticized.
Being a candidate means giving up your business to the controls of others if you have one. Seeing I have a new venture about to start in Walkerville, it’d be hard to do that although I’d make working on the business opening part of my campaign best knowing how to be a job creator
Speaking of vanity blogs…
Your point being?
