I woudn’t support this Charity, Would you????
I’ve finally had to do some research behind the candy bar box that we see on hundreds of counters in Windsor
It just struck me as fishy that no one at the businesses that displayed these boxes could even remember what the person looked like that placed it there.
Website looks fine www.oftdf.org . It does point out that this is not a local charity. Its not even a Toronto Charity. The donees are in British Columbia
“We have already placed two Uppertone© machines in The Panorama Fitness Center in Victoria, B.C. and one in The Northridge Fitness center in Nanaimo, B.C.
We have immediate plans to place an excercise system exclusively for wheelchair fitness in Vancouver, B.C. and some of our future plans include the following cities: Burnaby,Vancouver, Squamish, Langley, Kelowna and Kamloops”
So I finally got the charity status number off of the box
892960733 RR001
That lead to this listing
Well it lead me to this financial statement which the most recent is 2007
Correct me if I’m wrong, I just don’t see any money going to any opportunity for a disabled anywhere near here (or really anywhere).
I’m not against the disabled in BC. I’m just more of a local home grown guy. Imagine this moneys being raised by any of our local non profit charities or causes?
Maybe this will get forwarded to someone from this charity and they can correct me. Likely, no one from this charity will come forward. Hey maybe I’m way off base, maybe some equipment made its way down to Windsor. Maybe the 2008 financials are way better.
As someone who was raised by a Mother with MS. maybe I’m just too paranoid of whats done in the name of charity
Hopefully its not an extension of this April 25th warning
25 Apr 2009
There is an isolated incident in Ontario where persons are selling chocolates door to door and we encourage you to call the local police department if anyone comes to your door trying to sell chocolates.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

I’m wary of most persons either knocking on my door wearing photocopied ID tags or these boxes on the counters. I like knowing exactly where my donations are going.
On a separate note, readers are going to notice that I am a little more silent in the coming weeks. Ford has decided to call me back to work
(not necessaryily a bad thing. Paycheque = good) for a short time, and they are calling the shots with my schedule. It’s true that I started SD from the plant floor, but the plant I’m currently working in has no internet access, so this avenue is closed off to me. Please bear with me, and know that my blogging buddies will continue to work on making SD a great resource. If you have anything you want addressed, or a guest column you want to write, now would be a great time to send it along.
This site is a great resource owned by all of us, and I know it will continue the influential dialogue and planning in my brief absense!
