Hoppin’ Saturday Downtown

By Chris | July 11, 2009 |

Natalie's in L-O-V-E!

Dont’cha just love it when a plan comes together?

Ryan Smith, proprietor of Pause Cafe in beautiful downtown Windsor said it best: “I’ve never seen so many people walking around downtown on a Saturday morning!”  I bumped into Ryan as he was purchasing some fresh produce at the new downtown Farmers Market, and he told me there were dozens of new faces walking by his cafe that he’s never seen before.

The market is getting better and better.  Just one week after their ribbon cutting ceremony, the selection has easily doubled.  We didn’t need much in the Holt household, but I couldn’t resist picking up a few things, especially now that sweet corn is coming off the fields!

Holt's haul

For those of you who have yet to visit, I suggest you make the effort!  The market is something that both the residents of this city need to flourish (hey - that will only bring in more vendors and increase your selection) and our downtown needs to flourish (bringing in more pedestrian traffic, increasing business to places like Pause Cafe, which in turn attracts and diversifies YOUR choice of businesses downtown!)

Oh yeah - I know this picture is really, REALLY bad, but it shows just what you can expect at Phog Phest today! It’s really going to be amazing and I suggest you get down there to check it out - whether or not you have a ticket!

It’s definitely growing. The naysayers and critics must be in shock now. Even as a supporter, if you told me three months ago this was going to pull thru and be a smashing success, I would never have believed it. But there it is.

Certainly this project has drawn hundreds of Windsorites into downtown who might have given up on the area twenty years ago. I see people there of all ages, young and old. The market is something all residents need more than anything else and will have a positive effect on downtown that some may be underestimating.

I love the irony of the “Not a Pedestrian Throughfare” sign in the middle of the second picture. Ha! We sure showed them! =P

The market this week was even better than last week which is hard to believe! I purchased all of my vegetable needs for the entire week! The best thing is that it is all local! Try that with any of our grocery stores.

The pic of our grocery spread would have been better if I hadn’t started eating up the kettle corn. Going to have to get the big bag next time!! I’ll even save some for you, Chris!!
