Phog Phest - Saturday, July 11, 2009

This just in from the Phog Lounge press release;
On Saturday, July 11th, Phog Lounge will publicly celebrate the CBC Radio 3 Best Live Music Venue in Canada by holding a grand street party known as Phog Phest. Well over a thousand people are expected to attend throughout the 12-hour party, located on University Avenue West, between Victoria Avenue and Pelissier Street.
23 bands will be playing between 1pm and 1am alternating between stages located (of course) inside of Phog Lounge, and outside at the main stage, located on the east side of the street being closed, facing west. Tickets for the licensed area (19+) are $15. If people attending are under 19, or who do not wish to pay, can see the show for free from outside of the licensed area, which will hold roughly 600 people. Black Kettle Bistro, restaurant located on Ouellette Avenue will be serving amazing food in side and outside the licensed area all day. Wellington Brewery (microbrew from Guelph) will be serving thier beer outside from the mobile keg unit they will be bringing from their headquarters. Wellington beer has been carried at Phog Lounge since the day they opened in 2004, and customers love it so much, it’s never been taken off of the taps.
CBC Radio 3’s host Grant Lawrence, will be attending from Vancouver, and three special hours (5pm-8pm) of the evening will be live broadcast to Sirius Satellite Radio channel 86, and to the cbcradio3.com website. This will be an internationally-enjoyed event, over the airwaves, and a spectacular appreciation for Windsor’s independent music scene. A trophy and a plaque will be awarded to Phog Lounge during the broadcast. CBC Radio 3 and Sirius Satellite Radio’s broadcast will find local juggernauts (emerging from a two-year album-creating hiatus) Yellow Wood making it onto the prestigious broadcast time.
Other bands on the broadcast portion of the show are Green Go hailing out of Guelph, Ontario, as well as Arkells from Hamilton, Ontario. Arkells were recently shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, bestowed upon the most artistic album of the year in Canada. Another bad that made that Polaris shortlist in 2008, and has skyrocketed in appeal and listenership is the headliner of the broadcast, Holy F%#k. This band has a laundry list of achievements that is difficult to contain. A dance/rock band from Toronto, they have live drums, live bass, and then two other members playing an assortment of keyboards, distortion pedals, dollar store toys, and more. The result is an unbelievably great time for those who like to move to their music.
The live broadcast portion of the show will take place between 5pm and 8pm. The bands will continue to amaze until 1am on the street, and finish up at 2am inside of Phog Lounge. Clearly, there will be hundreds of people looking for somewhere to go for last call on this evening, so the hope is that all of the pople travelling from Toronto, London, Detroit, etc. experience as much of Windsor as possible on this day.
Owners, Frank Incitti and Tom Lucier are thrilled to have Windsor in the spotlight, and local bands being celebrated on such a grand scale. “The local bands are the ones who bring the ccrowds for the out-of-town musicians, and they’re the ones who make those shows successful. It’s time to recognize a big handful of those performers on this day when we celebrate the city’s love for this venue,” said Lucier.
