Checking in
I’ve been away from Scaledown for quite a while so I just thought I’d check in to say hi. Opening up the Tecumseh Roadhouse on County Road 42 (formerly Danilo’s). Too many projects and negotiations to keep up, only writing this cause I woke up wayyyy too early.
Last night I was very proud to see my wife’s business Colbro Equipment Rental win the Biz X oscar for “Git R Done” equipment Rental business in WIndsor. I’m not sure but this may make us the first Husband and wife Winners for separate businesses. Chanoso’s won the Best Appetizer Oscar several years ago for Best appetizer for our avocado egg rolls (shameless plug alert). Always a pleasure to see Pina and Adriano from Windsor Eats who also won for best online business. Congratulations.
I commend Biz X for having an award that honors local independant businesses as Chains and franchises are not eligible. I dont’ think that we talk enough about the importance of independant local businesses on Scaledown and I feel equally as strong about their role in our Mission and Vision statements. It is an especially critical time to support our local independant businesses.
Unfortunately, I probably won’t be blogging much until after Christmas with the work involved in opening a new business in addition to so many other ongoing challenges. My next topic might be one that discusses the difficulties in starting a new business or the challenges that come with the WIndsor International Film Festival.
In the meantime, please, support your local independant businesses in WIndsor

Thanks Mark! It was great seeing you again, too!
I grew up around the corner from that building — before Danilo’s it was an abandoned hotel (in the flea-bag sense) since I was a kid. Previous to that it was some kind of semi-legendary roadhouse bar far off on the edge of town where bands and etc played. Somebody once started a schoolyard rumour that Jimi Hendrix played there, but I don’t see how that could have happened.
Any history on the building? Any interesting finds? Though I suspect most things were cleared out when Danilo’s went in. They did a complete overhaul on the building.
Good luck Mark with your projects. By the way, Colbro is the only place I rent equipment and it is the only place we repair our tools for Gateway Public Park.
Not only are the prices great but the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I too thought it was great that Biz X Magazine had these awards. Now only if they would focus on Windsor based companies instead of all the Manning Rd businesses. It seems to be more of a suburban magazine but I am glad to see that they are starting to focus on Windsor.
thanks mark and everyone for the compliments–we try to recognize the cream of the crop and this year was no exception!
small and medium sized businesses–owned by local individuals are the backbone of our community and these are always the ones we support!!
congrats again to all winners!
deborah and the entire biz x magazine staff
Thanks everyone on the well wishes.
Shawn, I think you’d like the style of the place, an updated fresh roadhouse with a plan for local music. The walls are all collages of pictures with one being a Windsor-Essex Heritage wall.
As a oscar Windsor from long a go I can attest that Biz X has always focused on Windsor with an emphasis on local independant. As a business magazine you can’t ignore the movement of the businesses and populace to Tecumseh and the suburbs. I love the local emphasis regardless of county vs. city. Its still our regional culture
Bad development (manning road sprawl etc) should not be rewarded — but Windsor and Essex Co. are way too small to get into regional county vs city battles.
No Mark, you can’t ingnore the movement of business and population to the suburbs, but it’s not necessary to glorify it either…
I think you have to keep in mind they’re a business magazineand not a planning magazine
Plus, if these businesses are in tecumseh and lasalle aren’t they the main street businesses for those townships. I see nothing wrong with that. Its the ones that lie in unwalkable areas, such as walker road that pull from the main streets of Windsor, Lasalle, Tecumseh, Kingsville, Leamington etc.. Etc.. that I thought we should be concerned about.
I personally dislike the built environment on manning and tecumseh but thats their “mainstreet” and its central and can be walked to by many residents despite ugly “parking lagoons”. Its the built environment by EC row ad tecumseh that can’t even be walked to by majority of tecumseh
The above is not a statement but a sincere question as am undecided how to view the commercial state of tecumseh.
