Walkerville’s 150th Birthday Celebration
I don’t know how many of you know this about me, but I love Walkerville. I moved here a little over 5 years ago and could think of no other place in this city to live. I’m a Walkervillian. I even use Walkerville as my return address when I post something snail mail. (yes - it actually works!)
So, do you think I would let the fact that Walkerville is celebrating its 150th birthday pass by without mention? You’re crazy!
The Walkerville BIA, which just recently launched its new website, is celebrating with a host of events this Saturday. From the Holiday Walkabout from noon ’til 6:00 PM, featuring a “Then and Now” exhibit (in Refine Fitness) of nostalgic photos covering the past 150 years, to a visit from Santa Claus from 2 - 6:00 PM (in Britton Images Photography) to Horse Drawn Buggy rides around the district. Then join with the neighbourhood at the Tree Lighting ceremony at 6:00 at the Walkerville Parkette (Kildare and Wyandotte) for the first time this new Walkerville tradition takes place.
Later on that evening, be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blanket for an outdoor screening of the Christmas classic “Miracle on 34th Street“. Enjoy some hot cider, hot cocoa and hot buttered popcorn in the parking lot of “The Rock 95.1 FM” for this fun event.
Be sure to come and say hi if you do show up, as I won’t be missing this event!

If you haven’t been to Art Walkerville or any of the Walkabouts then you should really check this out. It’s great to see the shops and sidewalks filled with people carrying bags and other treats.
The concession stand at the movie will be operated by volunteers and all proceeds benefit Special Olympics. The 2009 provincial games will be in Windsor in July so please donate at Staples this week, donate online, or buy some treats from us at the concession stand.
