Walkerville - The Place To Be?
So, according the the Rosati Group’s recent mailout, Walkerville is the place to be. I’ve always know that, but it sure is nice to see a developer with the confidence in the area to invest this kind of cash.
I would, however, love to know what the designer was thinking with the red aluminum siding? And I KNOW Andrew will love the nouveau stucco adorning the building facade!
It is nice that they didn’t completely plaster the front, though. They kept some of the brick details which exemplify the ‘hood. I am very pleased to see that they are renting as well. Businesses such as Flow Furniture Boutiqe, Mindbox Creative Group, Tier One Executive Search, Spry: Design and The Yoga Loft are already committed to moving in.
The red siding has got to be is the worst thing I’ve ever seen!
Sorta beats the heck out of what used to be there, though… ..

I like the red…it would have been nice if some of the elements they’ve mentioned (metal beams, etc.) were brought to the outside to add architectural intrest instead of the stucco. Oh well, at least they’re doing _something_.
One step forward, two steps back….
Two steps forward, one step back.
That sounds better!
Great news Chris. I need to see the red siding in person to judge. Looks good in the drawings horrible in the pictures.
I guess I need to be less of a purist when it comes to rehabbing these buildings. Sure, I would have preferred to see Rosati completely restore the brickwork out front, but who knows - that may have been the economic straw-that-broke-the-camels-back that would have kept this redeveopment from happening.
First and foremost, our city needs quality infill redevelopment that infuses lifeback onto our streets. This will be doing that (Chilver and Wyandotte seems to be the redevelopment epicentre, with the Gourmet Emporium at one corner and this at the other. I am thinking that they just want to please ME seeing as I live on Chilver!) and I am happy to welcome it into Walkerville.
(Still hate the red siding, tough
Nice to see it rehabbed.
However, two steps forward, three steps back.
The red siding looks bad, and I guarantee it will fade and look like crap in two or three years. Red metal always does.
But fuck. Stucco? Great product and it looks awesome. I think I might stucoo my house next. God I love that stuff.
Given that Rosatti did this project, I guess we can only be thankful that it doesn’t look as bad as the mess on Ottawa St. they made out of the old CAW/Tepperman’s building.

I tell ya, Andrew, I would still rather have what they’re doing than to have another building rotting until the wrecking ball and death fences find their way to the site.
Maybe, just maybe, the fundamentalist approach needs a reprieve.
If it was in your ‘hood, I wouldn’t care
But this is MY backyard we’re talking about here! We’ve lost too much lately to see any more disappear.
Stucco is especially wonderful after ice gets under it and expands in a climate that’s main feature is bitter cold winter and stinking hot summer. I’d love for Windsor to look like a cheap version of Palm Springs, sans palm trees.
Its not all bad though, I love the really cool different businesses that are going in as tenants. Thank god for Walkerville.
Its about time that something has been done to the idle building. Its also really something for Rosati to be doing it! Much better than big box retail. Go Walkerville!!

Walkerville
At least it hasn’t met the fate of some Walker Road buildings, this one is still standing. Red siding or not, they are making a go of it.
Cheers.
