Ferry me my wayward son, they’ll be peace when you are done
After discussing it on scaledown Radio, its important to note that 1/2 of Andrew Foote’s suggestion for a ferry is completed Detroit announced a $15million dollar dock and customs office on their side to handle cruise boats and a potential ferry service to Windsor. Where’s our side’s plan? feasibility study? grant application? etc….? Should’t this qualify for the $300 million the feds set aside to deal with border tie ups????

It won’t fly/sail in Windsor, the ferry would take away tunnel traffic! Besides Eddie and council might have to do something about downtown roads, sidewalks, streetscaping and retail and residents if there was going to be more foot traffic from Detroit.
i heard that the city is giving that new tour/dine ship that wants to set up in Windsor are hard time, the city wants to locate them way down by the festival plaza(re: glorified parking lot!), instead near the foot of Ouellette, where the Aurora was.
Detroit sure does have its problems but slowly they are thinking more progressively than Windsor.
Exactly why it wouldn’t happen.
Mark - is it a passenger ferry or a passenger/vehicular ferry proposal?
If it is vehicular that would be private competition with the Windsor tunnel - depending upon frequency, capacity etc. Given the falling levels of the Detroit River, I don’t foresee a vehicular ferry feasible provided the extra weight all those vehicles.
But a passenger ferry would be really neat to connect downtown Windsor with Detroit to their people mover. Something I’d use over the tunnel bus any day.
Passenger ferry only.
As for the new ship. The reason council is not warm and cozy is because it impedes the view form the beacon. Imagine that! How I wish I could connect to Detroit and those from detroit to Windsor without having to get into a car. In fact with residencies increasing in Detroit’s downtown (and they are people with money) and in the surrounding communities such as Brush Park and Corktown you would think Windsor would embrace it. You would think…but our illustrious leaders have tunnel vision and can only do one thing at a time. Tunnel and Greenlink have melted their brains.
