ScaleDown Radio, June 3, 2008
Today, I had to go it alone. Well, sort of anyways.
Mark sounded worse than I’ve ever heard him when I talked to him yesterday, so it was in everybodys best interest that he stayed at home in bed to recover from whatever is ailing him. It’s just a good thing that for the week prior, we had been lining up guests for the show, so I wasn’t lacking for company.
The topic of the day is food, and how it impacts every aspect of our lives. From the way we produce it, distribute it and prepare it to the restaurants we frequent and the attention they pay to it. Every bite we take is a direct vote in favour of what you value. Eat at Big-Box restaurants? Well, you’re telling the powers-that-be that is the way you prefer your food and your landscape. Purchase and prepare locally-grown produce in a way that respects your region? That, my friends, is the vote that we want more people casting so those decision makers know that its time to starting providing more choices in that field.
So Pina from WindsorEats.com joined me in the studio today to help me wade through this complicated issue. The Windsor Stars food columnist and fellow blogger Ted Whipp also made a guest appearance to lend a hand. The consensus after this hour long show? We have a lot of work to do to get people to understand the direct correlations between their dollars and the health of our agri-culture, yet the demand is rising for a local solution. Good news and bad, but we’ll stick to and highlight the good in the hopes that it goes viral and infects us all!
Enjoy!
