Youngstown, Ohio - Photo Tour

By James | April 24, 2008 |

Exploring Debra’s blog I came across this photo tour of that city’s downtown.  There are some beautiful buildings there from the city’s heyday.

Youngstown seems to have a lot of Federal Buildings and Courthouses.

It seems that Youngstown is well on it’s way to revitalizing their downtown core. All those beautiful, mixed-use buildings, rescued heritage buildings and public spaces must bring vitality to their core. Coupled with all those Federal government buildings (it looks as though their upper-tiered governments haven’t forgotten about them, like ours has here in Windsor) that must bring thousands of employees downtown to support all those local, independant businesses.

I think it may be time for Windsor to take a page out of Youngstown’s “Creative Shrinkage” plan, so that we could start writing passages like this one…“Are things really happening here? Definitely. Millions invested downtown. National recognition for Mayor Williams’ “creative shrinkage” plan, albeit controversial. Lofts, condos and apartments coming soon. Time will tell how far the revitalization will go. But I certainly hope it continues. This community has been through a lot and it would be great to have a downtown that everyone can be proud of!

We already experiencing what Youngstown went through, but real picture will come once BIG 3(are they still BIG?!) disappear in next few years .

Our City should make a Huge Museum as an appreciation for all auto workers and auto industry. It should be something great, something that our neighbors don’t have, so when visitors think of Windsor they would think of that MUSEUM. What is NIAGARA FALLS for NIAGARA that auto industry should be for us.

It is time to stop think “locally” and see big picture
