“Someone’s gotta be able to fix this mess!”
Yeah, Windsor could be considered to be “a mess”, but wait and see the shape it’s in when Chris and Mark start imposing their will on our elected officals and the Planning/Traffic Departments! This weekly one-hour show promises to be a lot of fun, and at the same time providing some much-needed insight into what makes Windsor tick. We promise to have regular guests who can help us understand our current affairs and situations a little better.Want to play a part in the action? Well, folks, it’s a call-in show as well! Pick up the phone and dial 519.971.3630 in Windsor, or 313.963.6112 ext: 3630 in Detroit to have your say on the topics of the day or to speak with our on-air guests. So tune in and tune in often. The premier is Tuesday, but the show will run every Tuesday from noon ’til 1:00 on CJAM 91.5 FM; Redefining Radio in Windsor and Detroit.Don’t worry if you cannot tune in live because the program will be streamed live on CJAM’s website, as well as archived on both CJAM’s site and www.scaledown.ca.

Great idea! I will be listening every Tuesday! You know I will be calling in quite a bit as well? ; )
When I was a kid, I went to Patterson CI, where the Food Basics on Goyeau is now. Downtown had Smiths and Ademan’s and Epps for clothes and household items, plus a Kresgie’s, Woolworths and Metropolitan Store. The A&P was where they are tearing down Jokers, at Elliott, I think. The Dominion was at Wyandotte where the Herb Gray Centre is, and the Lawblaws was at Tuscorora where the bingo has been. Mom would make us walk from Bruce near Pine up to those stores to help her carry home food. She had to shop two or three times a week, because the freezer in fridges was so small then. Mom didn’t drive. She didn’t have a fur coat either, although Windsor sold more fur than anyplace in Canada except Montreal because people came to Windsor from Detroit. I remember when Dad drove us to the big new Dominion Store on Dougall when it opened. It was way out past the Elmwood (now it’s Value Village). The huge Sentry department store was at the other end of that new plaza. That life is gone. Downtown no longer means anything. We go to a restaurant there because of the restaurant, not because it’s downtown. Hanging onto the past without a vision for the future is useless. Our downtown needs a vision. A bold vision for 2020 — one that will take incremental investments. A bold vision is much more than an arena or an urban village or an academic building (as if academics attract commerce — do you see an economic boom around the core campus?). Windsor has a unique location, a unique history and unique advantages. What could our downtown be in 2020 that it has never been before? Answer that and we can do something. Keep jumping from little idea to little idea, we get nowhere.
