SAFETY COMES FIRST
| On Monday I was made aware of the newly released report on the mandatory closing time by the city for this Monday’s council meeting. Here’s the problem, the report again ignored repeated requests for input from the DWBIA, the businesses it represents and the residents of downtown. It is this simple folks, when you don’t involve the two stakeholders who are affected the most, you have failed and will continue to fail. (I would call the letter included in the report from Fran Funaro past ED of the DWBIA from before 2004 as a claim of DWBIA input a thumb in the eye, aggravating our denial of input even more.) I have to note that it shouldn’t be taken for granted that the DWBIA is seeking residents input, you may think it is obvious but it has rarely happened in Please call your councillor and tell them to be at April 3rds meeting to get the input they need from residents, businesses and safety expert Peter Bellmio before making their decision. Seems to be the way things work around here at city hall. Make an uninformed decision first, then get the data and documentation you needed to educate yourself about your decision.
This is a pattern that needs to be broken A.S.A.P.
Mark, are you asking residents to come to this meeting on Thursday to ask for their input? If so I will certainly attend. I already made the call to one of my councillors but I am sure I will be ignored as most residents are.
100% Dave, I would ask residents to voice their support for 3am closures this Monday as well as participation in Thursday’s Safety Forum.
The Forum will definitely not be limited to the 3am closing issue but will discuss all safety issues
Count me in Mark. I will see you thursday. As for Monday’s council meeting, I will not be able to attend.
i would love to be at the April 3rd meeting, unfortunately, I will be working until 8pm. Will it still be going on after this time? Will anyone be recording audio/video of it? If so, is there any way I can receive a copy?
